The most striking observation for me this year is the number of dead and dying elm trees. To be sure, we have lost many of our Native American elms over the last several decades to Dutch elm disease. Yet, many secluded elms persist in wooded borders and occasionally on some residential properties. This year I have seen dozens of dying trees and have received about a dozen calls from property owners. It seems to be the year for elm trouble. There are steps that can be taken to help elm trees.
